Version 0 of 1.

A man sitting at an Arlington pizza shop was arrested and charged after he allegedly snorted cocaine off a table as a police officer stood nearby.

The incident unfolded Sunday just before 4 a.m. at the Goody’s restaurant in the 3100 block of Wilson Boulevard in Clarendon, according to police.

It just so happened a police officer was also in the restaurant doing a round of checks, making sure people were safe and behaving, said Arlington police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

The officer noticed the man sitting and then starting to “snort off the tables.”

When the officer asked him what he was doing, the man — who was later identified as William Donovan, 26, of Vienna — stood up.

He then told the officer, “I’m going home tonight” and took a “fighting stance,” according to Sternbeck.

When the officer tried to put him in handcuffs, he began to kick and punch the officer. A customer in the restaurant jumped in to help restrain Donovan until another officer arrived.

Police described Donovan as being “highly intoxicated” at the time of the incident.

Donovan was arrested and charged with several counts, including assaulting a police officer and possession of cocaine. He was being held without bond.
