Fairfax County police are searching for a suspect who shot an employee of a computer store during a robbery Wednesday morning and then fled on foot.

Officers responded to Computer & Cellular in the 2700 block of Beacon Hill Road about 11:30 a.m. for a report of a person shot, police said.

Police said the suspect walked into the store, displayed a gun, took an item and then was confronted by an employee.

“A struggle ensued,” said Officer Tawny Wright, a spokeswoman for the department. “It’s unclear whether the suspect intentionally shot the employee or his gun just went off in the struggle.”

Police said the person was taken to a hospital with wounds that were not life-threatening.

Police said the suspect fled in the direction of Richmond Highway. He was described as wearing a colored jacket and jeans, and his face was covered. Police did not have any additional description.

Police are searching the area with dogs.
