A man was shot and critically wounded Monday afternoon in Southeast Washington and homicide detectives were called to investigate, officials said. A man was shot and killed Monday evening in southeast Washington, the D.C. police said.
Police responded for a shooting in the 2300 block of Hartford Street SE about 5:45 p.m., said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman. The victim was found unconscious and not breathing, and authorities took him to a hospital in life-threatening condition. The victim was identified as Darnell Antonio Mayfield, 34, of Southeast.
Officials did not immediately release details about the circumstances of the shooting. He was found about 5:40 p.m. in the 2300 block of Hartford Street SE. The site is in the Garfield Heights area, near Suitland Parkway. Information was not available immediately about who shot him or why.
