Police have arrested teen, searching for co-conspirators in shooting in park
Version 0 of 1. A 21-year-old who died in Prince George’s County in July was apparently killed during a robbery, police said Thursday. Darnell Dickerson died July 14, after being shot in Highland Gardens Park in Capitol Heights on May 26. County police first disclosed the ongoing homicide investigation in response to an inquiry from the Post this week. Malik Johnson-Bey, who was 16 at the time of the crime and has since turned 17, was arrested by the Maryland-National Capital Park Police shortly after the shooting, Prince George’s police said on Thursday. [‘Brazen’ shootings at Prince George’s County parks fuel alarm and rage] After Dickerson’s death, the park police force turned the case over to the county, where Johnson-Bey was charged as an adult with crimes including first-degree murder, according to court records. Police said that they are still investigating the case. They believe that Johnson-Bey knew Dickerson and the robbery was not random.
