Dartford van crash leaves pedestrian dead

A man has died after he was hit by a van in Dartford on New Year's Eve.

He and a woman were walking in Heath Lane at about 19:50 GMT when both pedestrians were struck by a Mercedes Vito van that was heading the same way, Kent Police said.

The 59-year-old man, who lived locally but has not yet been named, died at the scene, officers said.

The woman he was walking with was not seriously injured. The driver was not injured and no arrests have been made.

Officers particularly want to talk to the occupants of a vehicle that was travelling in the opposite direction to the van at the time of the crash because they may have seen what happened.
