Detectives have arrested a man on suspicion of the murder of a sex worker in Leeds. Daria Pionko, 21, died on 23 December after what police described as a “sustained and vicious attack” in the early hours of the morning. | |
West Yorkshire police said the man, 24, was arrested on Thursday and was to be questioned on Friday. | |
Pionko was found in Holbeck, a managed red-light district in the city. Det Supt Simon Atkinson said: “Inquiries are continuing into what has been the brutal murder of a young woman in Leeds. We remain keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of Springwell Road, Holbeck Road and Water Lane between 8pm on Tuesday 22 December and about 1.30am of Wednesday 23 December, or anyone who may have information. | |

A postmortem examination confirmed she died as a result of head injuries. A 38-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident on the day Pionko was found but was released without charge on Christmas Day. |
