Authorities did not disclose what led detectives to the suspect four years after the fatal shooting that occurred about 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2011 at the King Gas Station in the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE, in Congress Heights. The arrest was confirmed Friday by Asst. D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham. The fatal shooting occurred about 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2011, at the King Gas Station in the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE, in Congress Heights. Police said that the robber also struck another employee with the gun.
Police and the victim’s friend who worked at a convenience store across the street told the Washington Post in 2011 that two men entered the store and when Abduselam saw a gun, he went outside to call police. One of the men followed him and shot him, the friend said. Lt. Sean Conboy, a D.C. police spokesman, said tips from residents and DNA were used to build a case that led to Friday’s arrest. “This is another example of how it may take us some time, but we will never rest until we bring closure for the family and justice to the people involved.”
Abduselam had finished his shift but had stayed behind to help co-workers restock shelves. He was the fifth person killed in the District in a matter of days.
