Nine peers are taking part in a blog aimed at publicising the work of the House of Lords.

The Lords of the Blog site, which has gone live, allows people to ask the authors about their lives and the workings of Parliament's upper house.

The pilot project will run initially for six months.

Dozens of MPs already have their own blogs, including London Tory mayoral hopeful Boris Johnson and Foreign Secretary David Miliband.

'More comfortable'

The nine peers will write and upload material and moderate user comments themselves.

Lords of the Blog manager Barry Griffiths said: "This is a fascinating pilot to be involved in as the House of Lords is packed full of expertise on a whole range of topical subjects.

"It's great to see the peers involved become more comfortable using the blog as a communication tool to raise awareness and engage with the public on issues relating to the role and business of the House of Lords."

The peers taking part are: Lord Soley, Lord Norton, Lord Tyler, Lord Lipsey, Lord Dholakia, Baroness D'Souza, Lord Teverson, Baroness Young of Hornsey and Baroness Murphy.
