M&S said that the custard cream-shaped biscuits made their way into the £6 M&S box when the factory ran out of normal moulds and used a custard cream mould instead. M&S said that the custard cream-shaped biscuits made their way into the £6 M&S box because the factory uses the same moulds as custard cream, but a different biscuit recipe.
"The biscuits used in the selection box are made with a luxury biscuit ingredient mix and are made using the custard cream mould before being covered in chocolate. “Customers can rest assured the biscuits remain our own luxury recipe covered in milk chocolate," a spokewoman said.
"They may be in a custard cream mould, but they are not custard cream biscuits. What's happened is that we used the same mould as it's the same shape and size. "They are simply made using the same mould as a custard cream.”
"It doesn't have cream in the middle and the luxury biscuit recipe was still used - it was just made in the same mould. We are not fooling the nation and there is no untoward biscuit activity going on," the spokesperson said.
