Man dies in Fairfax County of exposure to the elements

Version 0 of 1. A man exposed to the elements was found dead outdoors in Annandale on Wednesday. Don Gotthardt, a Fairfax County police spokesman, said Thursday that police have not yet ascertained the man’s identity, but they believe he may have been homeless. A resident called police around 1 p.m. Wednesday upon seeing the man in a small patch of woods, apparently sleeping, near the intersection of Route 236 and Annandale Road. Officers found that he was dead. With no signs of foul play, he appeared to have died because of exposure to the elements, police said. [41 people died of homelessness in the District in 2015] Gotthardt said that the place the man died was not one where homeless people camp — police found no bedding or tents there. Police reminded citizens that they can always call to get help for homeless neighbors on cold nights to get people safely into warm shelters.
