Police search Victorian bushland for missing woman Karen Chetcuti
Version 0 of 1. Sniffer dogs are scouring Victorian bushland for clues amid grave concerns for a missing woman whose burnt-out car was found nearby. Karen Chetcuti, a mother of two, was last seen on Tuesday night at the Whorouly Hotel and reported missing the next day. The lights were left on at her home and her handbag and purse were still there. Her destroyed car was found 20km away on Halls Road in Myrtleford on Thursday. “That’s totally alarming to us, the vehicle being burnt in that fashion,” Det Sgt Sol Solomon told 3AW on Friday. The homicide squad, the missing persons squad, sniffer dogs and local State Emergency Service members are searching bushland from Halls Road to Whorouly for clues. Solomon said Chetcuti, 49, had two children, aged 14 and 15. “[She] didn’t turn up for work on Wednesday, which is highly out of character for her,” he said. “She’s well known as being highly punctual, highly thought of and very efficient in her life.” Chetcuti did not contact anyone on Wednesday. A concerned friend reported her missing. Solomon said police were trying to nail down her movements after she left the Whorouly Hotel at 7.30pm on Tuesday but it did not have CCTV cameras. Chetcuti is 175cm tall, of a medium build, with dark brown shoulder-length hair. |
