A 14-year-old girl has died after being rescued from the sea off the North Tyneside coast. A 15-year-old girl has died despite being rescued after after she was swept into the sea in North Tyneside.
A RNLI lifeboat and Coastguard search-and-rescue helicopter were called to Cullercoats Bay at around 20:00 GMT on Saturday. She was with a group of teenagers on the north pier at Cullercoats Bay.
The teenager was taken to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest. A RNLI lifeboat, the police and a Coastguard search-and-rescue helicopter were called to Cullercoats Bay at about 20:00 GMT on Saturday.
The teenager died at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington, Northumberland. She had suffered a cardiac arrest.
In a statement issued before she died, Northumbria Police said she had been rescued from the side of the bay by a member of the public.
Another 15-year old girl, and a boy and girl both aged 14, were taken to hospital as a precaution but were uninjured, police said.
