Version 0 of 1.

Nearly 2.5 million people in the Central African Republic — half the population — are now facing hunger, double the figure from a year ago, the main food aid agency of the United Nations said Wednesday. The agency, the World Food Program, attributed the increase to years of conflict and insecurity that have kept people from tending their fields and livestock, exacerbated by a poor harvest. “This is not the run-of-the-mill emergency,” Guy Adoua, the agency’s deputy director for the country, said in a statement. “People are left with nothing.” The agency called for an emergency cash infusion of $41 million from donor countries to deal with the crisis.
