Tent fire kills person at homeless camp
Version 0 of 1. A person was killed early Thursday when a tent caught fire at a homeless encampment in Rockville, Montgomery County fire officials said. A 911 caller phoned from a convenience store and told authorities there was a structure fire in the 5400 block of Randolph Road, near auto warehouses, said Pete Piringer, a fire department spokesman. Arriving firefighters found a tent fully engulfed in flames along with several abandoned vehicles at what appeared to be a makeshift homeless camp. One person was found dead where the tent incinerated and witnesses told authorities the victim was male, however, officials did not positively identify the person. Fire and police officials are investigating the cause, Piringer said. |
