Version 0 of 1.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to take a child following reports schoolgirls were approached by a man posing as a police officer.

Four girls aged 11 to 14 said they were approached in Hornsey by a black man on Monday morning. Another girl said the same thing happened to her on Tuesday.

Police said the 28-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday and has been released on bail.

Det Ch Insp Paul Trevers described such offences as "incredibly rare".

He urged witnesses to come forward "so that my team can be sure to identify and prosecute the offender of these awful crimes."

The man was not wearing a police uniform at the time, but it is understood he identified himself as a police officer.

He was described as being of a medium build with short dark hair and wearing a jacket with the hood up.

None of the girls was injured.
