Hill is credited with a number of innovations in the national game but is probably most famous for campaigning to scrap the maximum wage for footballers. Season ticket holder Laina Tebbutt, 50, from Whitley, said Hill had been "massive" for the club and football in general.
He is credited with introducing three points for a win instead of two, he made the Highfield stadium into England's first all-seater and introduced the first electronic scoreboard in 1964. "Everyone is so passionate about him, he was such an innovator," she said.
