Sussex Police said the man was "thankfully making a recovery". Two people have been arrested in connection with the crash.

Sussex Police said a 31-year-old man from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing serious injury, attempting to pervert the course of justice and aggravated vehicle taking.
"The Fiat drove off leaving the victim for dead and clearly they would have known they had hit someone," said Sgt Dan Pitcher. A 56-year-old woman, also from Brighton, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The car has been recovered but police have not yet identified the driver. Both are in custody.
