Actor Damian Lewis has been denounced as being "too privileged" to take part in a north London school's anniversary celebration. Actor Damian Lewis has responded to critics who said he was too privileged to take part in his local comprehensive school's 50th anniversary celebrations.
The Homeland star is due to switch on a laser display later to mark Acland Burghley School's 50th anniversary. Alumni from Acland Burghley School in north London had signed a petition against the Homeland star's appearance.
But some alumni have signed a petition against his involvement, objecting to his "privileged" background. Comments made by Eton-educated Lewis at the event, where he switched on a laser display, were reported on Twitter.
The actor, who attended Eton College independent boarding school, lives near to the comprehensive school in Camden. Mary Carson, who was at the celebrations, tweeted that the actor said his critics had missed the point.

The BBC has approached him for comment. The actor lives near the comprehensive school in Camden.
