Police are looking for the driver of a silver SUV that authorities say is responsible for a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.

The SUV was heading east on Annapolis Road near Maryland Route 410 in West Lanham Hills when it struck someone walking on the roadway about 8:35 p.m. Wednesday, Prince George’s County Police said. The SUV did not stop, police said.

The vehicle — described as a 2003-2005 silver Ford Expedition or Lincoln Navigator — is missing a right side-view mirror, which snapped off at the scene during the crash, police said.

Authorities released an image of the cracked mirror, hoping it “will help community members potentially recognize the striking SUV and come forward to help close the case,” police said in a statement.

Police spokesman Officer Tyler Hunter said that the victim remains in the hospital with life-threatening injuries and that investigators have not been able to speak with him to determine whether the incident is weather-related.

“At the time of the accident, the nearby sidewalks were not shoveled,” Hunter said. “We can’t rule it out.”

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the crash to call police at 301-731-4422, or to remain anonymous, 1-866-411-TIPS.
