A bar fight led to the fatal stabbing of a Riverdale, Md., man and the wounding of another victim late Sunday at a popular restaurant and nightclub in downtown Washington, police said.
Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the altercation insideBarcode, at 17th and L streets NW, at about 11:30 p.m., said Asst. D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham.
Officers responded to the bar after a report of a man down. When police arrived, they said they found two men who had been stabbed. Both were transported to area hospitals, but Robinson Pal, 29, was pronounced dead about 12:42 a.m. The other victim had wounds that police described as not life-threatening.
Attempts to reach Pal’s family were unsuccessful Monday.
At a Monday afternoon news conference, Newsham said police have not identified a suspect but are interviewing witnesses and reviewing video footage from inside the bar. They also are seeking video that may have been recorded on security cameras outside, he said.
This is the second recent incident at Barcode: On New Year’s Day, a man who police said was under the influence of alcohol drove a car into an outdoor seating area at the club. At least four people were hit.

Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said Monday that she would use her emergency powers to shut Barcode for 96 hours because of the stabbing.
The Emergency Suspension of Liquor Licenses Act, enacted two years before Lanier became chief in 2007, gives the police chief the power to close an establishment for up to four days, after which the D.C. Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, which regulates liquor licenses, decides what will be done.
