West Midlands Police tweeted it would remain closed for most of the morning. The man driving the car was confirmed dead at the scene. The lorry driver was shaken but uninjured, paramedics said.
Two lanes are also currently closed on the southbound carriageway between junctions six and five. Two lanes have now reopened southbound between junctions six and five.
