Version 0 of 1.

A police officer in the eastern city of Ismailia has been sentenced to eight years in jail for beating a man to death in custody and falsifying police records, judicial officials said Tuesday. Human rights groups say that police brutality is widespread in Egypt, and trials of police officers are rare. The victim was a middle-aged veterinarian who died in custody hours after being detained on Nov. 25. Protesters burned tires in the street shortly after his death.
