A Loudoun County man was charged Wednesday with firing his gun inside a hospital, when he arrived there to get treatment for a gunshot wound he had already suffered.

No one was wounded when the man fired his gun twice, once at the hospital doors and once inside the building.

Fairfax County police said Thursday that William Brock, 52, has been charged with felony destruction of property and shooting into an occupied building.

He is receiving treatment for his gunshot wound in the hospital, where he is under guard, police said. He will be taken to the Fairfax County jail when he is released from treatment.

Officer Roger Henriquez said that Brock intentionally shot himself inside his car, either before driving to the hospital or in the hospital parking lot.

Then he went to Reston Hospital Center about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to get help. But the entrance he tried wasn’t open.

“He gets there. The doors are locked. He decides to crank off a round,” Henriquez said.

That broke the glass, and Brock walked into the hospital. Staff saw that Brock was injured and went to help him, and he fired his gun again.

When that shot hit no one, Henriquez said, staff members asked Brock to drop the weapon. He did, and they proceeded to give him medical help.
