Six Killed in Shooting Rampage in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — An assailant shot and killed six employees inside an education administration building in southern Saudi Arabia on Thursday, the Saudi Interior Ministry said.

The attacker was arrested but not identified. Mass shootings are rare in the oil-rich kingdom, although extremists linked to the Islamic State have committed a series of deadly attacks on mosques and security personnel in recent years.

The authorities described Thursday’s attack as “criminal,” suggesting that they did not consider it to be an act of terrorism.
