A man was stabbed and seriously wounded Wednesday night during an attack near Union Station in Northwest Washington, D.C. police said.

Police responded to the 100 block of D Street NW, where they found a man suffering from apparent stab wounds about 5:15 p.m., said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman. The victim was conscious and breathing at the scene and was taken to a hospital with wounds that were believed to be non-life threatening, police said.

It was not immediately clear why the man was stabbed, but police said they were looking for an Hispanic male dressed in Army fatigue pants.
