Version 0 of 1.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with several sexual offense incidents that happened at a grocery store and a county service center in the Wheaton area, Montgomery County police said.

William Brown Jr. of Wheaton was charged with attempted second-degree rape and other assault charges in three separate incidents.

On Feb. 4, Brown went up to a woman who was at the self-checkout line at a Safeway store in the 11000 block of Georgia Avenue and began “touching her inappropriately,” police said. He then fled the area, they said.

The next day at the same grocery store, police said, Brown approached a woman as she was putting groceries in her vehicle in the store’s parking garage and inappropriately touched her. He grabbed her and tried to push her inside the vehicle, according to police. She struggled with him and fell down and the assailant fled when another person came into the parking area. Police said the victim, a 30-year-old woman, suffered a broken finger.

In another incident on Feb. 10, Brown came up behind a 22-year-old woman at the Mid-County Regional Services center in the 2400 block of Reedie Drive, wrongly touched her, and then tried to pull down her pants, according to police. The victim got away and Brown fled the area, police said.

Authorities said the victims gave a physical description of the suspect. Using their descriptions and surveillance video taken at the time of the assaults, they said, they eventually identified Brown. They said he told police that he “bumped” into a female in the garage in the Feb. 5 incident.

He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
