A District man was sentenced to seven years in prison Friday for robbing a man who had just gotten off a Metro bus in Southeast Washington.

Prosecutors say Donte Thomas, 25, had known his victim since they were children and had targeted him after the man had caught a Metro bus at 18th and Alabama Avenues at about 12:30 a.m. on May 13.

Prosecutors said Thomas ordered the man to the ground, pointed a handgun and ordered him to give him money, diamond stud earrings, a cellphone and LG headphones.

Thomas was arrested the next day after the victim identified him to a police officer as Thomas was walking through his neighborhood.

D.C. Superior Court Judge John McCabe oversaw Thomas’s November trial in which a jury found him guilty.
