One person died Monday night in a house fire in Southeast Washington, authorities said.

A firefighter was seriously injured in the fire in the 4300 block of Massachusetts Avenue, said Timothy J. Wilson, the spokesman for the DC fire and EMS departments.

The fire broke out about 8 p.m. and was under control by 8:40 p.m.

As of late Monday night, no cause had been determined. An investigation was under way.
