A childcare centre south of Brisbane has reportedly shut, following the death of a child who went home sick.

The Courier Mail reports the three-year-old boy went home from the centre at Logan with a fever before dying on Thursday night.

Metro South Public Health physician Dr Kari Jarvinen says the cause of death is unknown at this stage but there is nothing to indicate a risk of illness to other children at the centre.

Nevertheless, he says parents should consider seeking medical assistance if a child falls ill.

“It’s important that ill people do not attend work, school or public places,” he said.

Parents were reportedly told to pick up their children early on Friday afternoon.

An external company was brought in to disinfect the facility while it was shut, reports say.
