Leeds Bangladeshi centre brawl: 34 people charged

Thirty four people have been charged after a public meeting at a Leeds community centre turned into a mass brawl in which police were attacked. Six people were hurt at the Bangladeshi Centre Leeds in Roundhay Road on 30 May during the organisation's AGM. West Yorkshire Police said a total of 56 charges were brought against 33 men and a 17-year-old. The charged men are aged between 19 and 58 and were mainly from the Leeds area; one was from York. Officers said 32 men and the youth were charged with violent disorder while another man was charged with possession of an offensive weapon. Some were also charged with assault and possession of an offensive weapon, while one was charged with witness intimidation. A total of 52 people were arrested after the brawl; of those 16 were released without charge while one man received a caution and another was given a community resolution order. |
