Version 0 of 1.

A Melbourne man has appeared in court accused of raping six women he met via social networking and dating websites.

Adel Nafady, 28, appeared in Melbourne magistrates court on Monday facing charges of rape, assault and unlawful imprisonment.

Prosecutor Lesley Taylor SC alleged Nafady connected with the women through various social networking and dating websites before raping them at his Windsor apartment between March and May last year.

It is alleged a seventh woman broke free from Nafady on a street as he tried to force her up to the apartment.

From the end of February to May 21, he allegedly made contact with 72 women via various websites, primarily using phone apps.

Six women were allegedly raped by Nafady after initial online contact was followed by an exchange of phone numbers and arrangements to meet, Taylor told the court.

All of Nafady’s alleged victims were born in foreign countries and all but one will require an interpreter when they give evidence to Nafady’s committal hearing, the court heard.

Nafady was born in Egypt and arrived in Australia in February last year to study business administration in Melbourne, Taylor said.

The women were aged between 19 and 36 at the time.

Nafady was supported in court by his father, who flew from Egypt for his son’s committal hearing.

The hearing is due to continue all week.

The court will be closed when the complainants give evidence.
