Update: Prince William County police say sexual assault report is false
(about 7 hours later) | |
A 19-year-old woman gave authorities a false report, saying that she had been sexually assulted in Woodbridge, Prince William County police said Monday.
Authorities released a sketch of a man who they thought was involved in the assault Monday morning. But by Monday afternoon, police announced the incident — which the woman reported happened at 8 p.m. Sunday as she walked home from work — was untrue.
“Detectives from the Special Victims Unit have determined that the information provided by the woman was false and that the incident did not occur,” a police spokesman said in a statement.
In the initial report, the woman told investigators that she was near Bixby Road and Gideon Drive when a man had grabbed her and “inappropriately touched her.” Authorities reported that the woman had suffered minor injuries.
