Thieves steal shopper’s purse from cart at Fairfax Costco

The Costco shopper had done what plenty of people do — she put her purse in a shopping cart. But as the purse sat in the cart, police in Fairfax County said, one thief distracted the shopper by starting up a conversation and another snatched the purse from the cart.

Police released surveillance photos this week showing the suspects they believe are involved in the theft.

The incident happened Feb. 13 around 11:30 a.m. at the Costco in the 7900 block of Richmond Highway.

Police said that once the thieves stole the victim’s purse, one of her credit cards was used shortly after the incident at a Target store on Jefferson Davis Highway.

Authorities said the incident should serve as a reminder for residents to keep personal items nearby as they shop.
