Police have been accused of glamorising fast driving on public roads after footage of a patrol car responding to a call was posted on the internet.

A three-minute clip on YouTube shows a patrol car at high speed on the A14 near Ipswich, Suffolk.

Suffolk Police said they knew about the clip and were "disappointed". Road safety group Brake accused the police of glamorising speed.

The video is called "Police Emergency Outskirts Ipswich UK".

On the clip sirens can be clearly heard and at one point the camera switches from focus on traffic on the dual carriageway to the car's speedometer.

Extremely disappointed

A Brake spokesman said: "It is irresponsible for a police officer to post footage such as this on a website, when the aim seems to be to glamorise speeding.

"It sends out the message that it is OK to speed, which is clearly not the case."

A Suffolk police spokesman said: "Suffolk Constabulary is aware of this video and it has been referred to our professional standards department.

"An investigation is under way and clearly we are extremely disappointed that an officer has chosen to post this footage on the internet.

"The officer filming is a passenger in the car and there appears to be no road traffic offences committed.

"However, this action sends out the wrong message and is at odds with the road safety advice we issue to the public."
