U.S. stocks are tracking world markets lower as investors worry about the global economic outlook and await the outcome of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s monthly meeting, which ends Wednesday.
Shortly after the open Tuesday, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 0.5 percent to 17,124 while the broader Standard & Poor’s 500 shed 0.6 percent to 2,006.11.
Some stocks have been weighed down by a slump in oil and commodity prices, with the U.S. benchmark for crude down 76 cents at $36.42 a barrel.
Traders will look Wednesday to the Fed for hints on when the central bank may raise interest rates again.
