Detectives are continuing to appeal for information on the incident. They are now looking for a claw hammer that may have been used in the attack.
Det Ch Insp Stuart McKenzie, who is leading the investigation, said: "Although a person has been charged, I still think people have further information regarding this incident and would urge them to contact the incident room." Detectives said a witness saw the hammer at around 0900 GMT on the morning of the incident between parked cars on Gilestone Road, but it was gone by 1000 GMT.
They believe a member of the public innocently found the hammer and picked it up.
Det Ch Insp Stuart McKenzie, who is leading the investigation, said: "I am only interested in recovering the hammer, and not any person who has innocently picked it up."
Anyone who is in possession of the hammer is asked to call police who will collect it.
They are asked not to touch it as they may obscure forensic evidence.
