MANAMA, Bahrain — Bahraini authorities have released Salah al-Khawaja, the brother of human rights advocate Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, after five years in jail in a case related to Bahrain’s uprising in 2011.

The al-Khawaja family posted a photo on Twitter Saturday of Salah in a car with family members. The family said they had received a call telling them to pick Salah up in the morning.

The Bahraini government has not released any statement on the issue.

Salah is not a prominent political figure or activist, but he comes from a highly political family. His brother Abdulhadi is serving a life sentence for his activism and his niece Zainab was detained last week and faces up to three years in prison on multiple charges.
