After preliminary investigation, police think that the male teenager was involved in a conversation that turned into an argument. At some point the other person apparently drew a gun and fired, according to Commander David Taylor, who is in charge of the 6th police district.
Gunshots were reported at the station at 4 p.m., police said. The victim was found on the platform with a gunshot wound to the body, they said. | Gunshots were reported at the station at 4 p.m., police said. The victim was found on the platform with a gunshot wound to the body, they said. |

His assailant remained at large Saturday evening said Jack Evans, chairman of the Metro board of directors, and a member of the D.C. Council.
Evans (D-Ward2) said police chief Cathy L. Lanier told him that the victim was believed to be 15 years o9ld.
He said he was told that a woman, a younger child and the victim were all on the outdoor platform, when a young man came up to the victim and an argument began.
Evans said he understood that “excellent video” of the incident was captured, apparently by surveillance cameras at the station.
“The shooter is still at large,” Evans said. “But apparently there is excellent video of the whole thing.”
Both Council Member Yvette Alexander (D-Ward7), and former Mayor Vincent Gray, who has announced his intention to run for her seat, went to the station after the shooting.
Alexander expressed outrage at what she described as community complacency over such violent acts and at what she said was a culture among youths that placed no value on human life.
“We have to change the culture, with young people who think their life is going to end by 20 years old,” she said.
“They don’t care,” she said of many youths. “You can’t value your own life if you commit this act in daylight with cameras and witnesses all around.”
Gray said he was concerned about the proliferation and availability of guns in the District.
Speaking of the disparities in gun legislation among the Washington area jurisdictions, he said “I wish we could have some common set of rules to help keep these guns off t he street.” He said the shooting helped demonstrate the need for curbing illegal gun possession.
The shooting shut down the station, which is near Eastern and Kenilworth Avenues, not far from the border between the District and Prince George’s County. It serves trains on the Orange Line. | The shooting shut down the station, which is near Eastern and Kenilworth Avenues, not far from the border between the District and Prince George’s County.
