Arrest after woman raped in Newcastle Quayside alley

A man has been arrested after a woman was dragged into an alley and raped on Newcastle's Quayside.

The 25-year-old victim was walking alone when she was attacked in The Close, near the Quayside bar, at about 21:45 GMT on Friday.

The area is a popular nightspot and police said officers have been speaking to residents and business owners to gather information.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and is in custody.
