The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming town elections is April 11. Elections for local offices are being held May 3 in the towns of Hamilton, Lovettsville, Middleburg, Purcellville and Round Hill.

In-person absentee voting is taking place at the Loudoun County Voter Registration Office, 750 Miller Dr. SE, Suite C, Leesburg. The hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 29. Absentee voting will also be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 30, the last day to vote by absentee ballot in person.

Voters can apply for an absentee ballot online through the Citizen Portal at elections.virginia.gov. The last day to apply to have an absentee ballot mailed is April 26.

Leesburg will host its fourth annual Career Expo on April 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tuscarora High School, 801 N. King St., Leesburg.

The Career Expo is for high school and college students and recent graduates. More than 60 employers will be filling more than 750 positions that pay up to $15 per hour. Available positions include full-time, part-time and seasonal work, as well as entry-level salaried jobs and internships. Many businesses will be hiring on the spot. The Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District, in partnership with the Leesburg Environmental Advisory Commission, will offer rain barrel workshops in Leesburg in April and May. While the workshops are open to everyone, Leesburg residents can receive a $25 discount on rain barrel purchases through a Leesburg program sponsored by the Environmental Advisory Commission. A limited number of discounts will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis (limit two per household).

The rain barrel workshops will be held at Tuscarora Creek Park, 425 Solitude Ct. SE. The workshop dates and times are: April 12 to 13, and May 17 to 18, both from 6 to ­8 p.m.

Making a rain barrel takes about 20 minutes. Participants need to attend only one workshop, and may arrive anytime from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Participants can make a rain barrel to take home or purchase a pre-made barrel. Kits cost $60; the pre-made barrels are $80.
