Powerlines caught fire Friday evening in the Potomac area of Montgomery County after an intense thunderstorm sewpt through the area.

In some parts of the Washington area, little more than hints of stormy weather were experienced.

But a powerful storm burst passed across the Potomac area. It was believed that lightning ignited the lines in 12800 block of Travilah Road, said Pete Piringer, spokesman for the county fire and rescue service.
