Search for lost aircraft resumes Rescue team find missing aircraft

The search for a light aircraft missing in the Cairngorms in bad weather has been resumed. A rescue team has found the wreckage of a missing aircraft on Cairn Gorm.
Three mountain rescue teams set out to continue to look for the plane at 0900 BST on Sunday. It was discovered about 1km from the Funicular Railway by the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team.
The plane, which only had the pilot on board, lost contact with air traffic controllers on Saturday morning. A police spokesman said the remains of one person were found in the wreckage and they are trying to contact the pilot's next of kin.
The aircraft was is reported to have been last seen heading south in the area of the Ptarmigan restaurant at the top of the Cairngorm funicular railway. The plane, which only had the pilot on board, set off from Carlisle at about 0900 BST on Saturday but it is believed its journey began in Staffordshire.
Weather conditions in the area were described as severe, with poor visibility and snow showers. It is thought the plane set off on Friday from Wolverhampton business airport before refuelling in Carlisle on its way to Wick.

RAF spokesman Michael Mulford said the alarm was raised when the pilot lost contact with controllers who had been speaking to him at regular intervals.
