Neighborhood Watch training by Prince William County police’s Crime Prevention Unit will begin at 7 p.m. Monday at the Prince William County Development Services Building, 5 County Complex Ct., Woodbridge. The free training is available to anyone interested in starting a program and those looking for additional training. Topics will include crime reporting, emergency preparedness and watch patrol. For information or to register, call 703-792-7270. A $77,000 grant from the American Battlefield Protection Program, a division of the National Park Service, will help the Prince William County Department of Public Works to study and document the Bristoe Station and Kettle Run battlefields. County Archaeologist Justin Patton said the study will help construct a preservation plan for the two battlefields. The study will “document the historical extent of these battles and where troops moved across the landscape, and then use that historical information, working with the community, to develop some preservation goals and action strategies,” he said in a statement. “The Historic Preservation Division staff of Prince William County has done quite a bit of research,” he said. “They’re handing that off to our consultants. Our consultants are doing research. I think we’re going to be able to tell as complete a story about the battle as possible, and we’ll be able to use that information to the betterment of the project. I think what we haven’t fully documented is really what happened in each part of the landscape and how significant that was and what we as a community should do about those areas.” Comments on the study may be submitted online at pwcgov.org or by email to planning@pwcgov.org.
