Thornton was found unconscious about 10:45 p.m. on Sept. 19 inside a residence in the 300 block of Delafield Place NW, off New Hampshire Avenue in Brightwood Park. She was pronounced dead Sunday and her death was ruled a homicide on Monday . No other details of the case have been released. In a search warrant application filed in D.C. Superior Court, police said they were called to the second-floor apartment by the occupant of an adjacent unit who heard loud noises and then heard footsteps going downstairs and a door slamming open against the brick building.
The neighbor went to the hallway and, he told police, he found the woman lying on the floor near her front door. The search warrant application says police recovered a pipe wrench, photographs and other evidence near her.
She was pronounced dead Sunday, and her death was ruled a homicide on Monday.
Relatives could not be reached.
