Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has reshuffled his cabinet by bringing in seven new ministers.

Former chief election commissioner M S Gill, Jyotiraditya Scindia, the son of a former Congress Party leader, and Jitin Prasada were among those chosen.

The sports and youth affairs portfolio has been taken away from the prominent southern Congress leader, Manishankar Aiyer, although he retains two others.

The reshuffle follows calls by some to include younger members in the cabinet.

The four other new ministers are Congress MPs V Narayanasamy, Rameshwar Oraon and Santosh Bagrodia, and Rashtriya Janta Dal MP Raghunath Jha.

Earlier, six ministers submitted their resignations to President Pratibha Patil.
