Speaking in Beijing, Mr Rogge said the IOC "has expressed its serious concern and called for a rapid, peaceful resolution of Tibet". Speaking at an IOC meeting in Beijing, Mr Rogge said the IOC "called for a rapid, peaceful resolution of Tibet".
He also condemned the violent protests which have accompanied the progress of the Olympic torch on its global relay. He also condemned attempts to disrupt the Olympic torch relay saying violence "is not compatible with the values of the torch relay or the Olympic Games".
"Violence for whatever reason is not compatible with the values of the torch relay or the Olympic Games," he said. China has called the protests which accompanied the relay in London "vile".
The Olympic torch relay through western Europe started in London on Sunday with angry protests against China's actions in Tibet. Sun Weide, a spokesman for the Beijing Olympic organising committee, said that the demonstrations - which saw protesters trying to douse and even snatch the Olympic flame - were the work of "a few Tibetan separatists" attempting "to sabotage the torch relay in London", the Associated Press reported.
