A man has been found guilty of causing the death of a 21-month-old toddler who died with injuries likened to a car crash victim. A mother has been found guilty of murdering her 21-month-old daughter, who died with injuries likened to a car crash victim.
Matthew Rigby, 22, was cleared of murder but convicted of causing or allowing the death of Ayeeshia Jane Smith in Burton-on-Trent, Staffs. Kathryn Smith, 23, was also convicted of cruelty to a child following Ayeeshia Jane Smith's death.
Her mother Kathryn Smith, 23, has been found guilty of cruelty to a child. Her partner Matthew Rigby, 22, was cleared of murder but convicted of causing or allowing the child's death in Burton-on-Trent, Staffs.
A jury at Birmingham Crown Court is still deciding if she is guilty of murder. The pair had repeatedly protested their innocence at Birmingham Crown Court.
They will be sentenced at the same court on Monday.
