Two dozen dead birds were found Friday along Avion Parkway and Lee Jackson Memorial Highway in Chantilly. A 7-year-old girl was shot and wounded Friday night on Hartford Street SE, police said.
Animal control officers for Fairfax County were called about 10 a.m. to the area where the birds were found along the road. They are thought to be European starlings. Officer Sean Hickman said the child was conscious and breathing when taken to a hospital.
Officials said there was no “apparent cause of death” at that time. The shooting occurred about 9:40 p.m. in the 2400 block. The circumstances were not known.
