Sheffield police officers injured in 'domestic incident' arrest Sheffield police officer seriously injured arresting 'axe man'

A number of police officers were injured as they arrested a man following a "domestic incident" in Sheffield. A female police officer is in hospital with serious injuries after attempts to arrest a man, reportedly armed with an axe, South Yorkshire Police have said.
South Yorkshire Police said they were called to Plowright Close in the Gleadless area of the city at 19:50 BST on Wednesday. Four other officers, all men, suffered less serious injuries during the incident at Plowright Close in Sheffield on Wednesday night.
It is unclear how many officers were hurt but a force spokesman said their injuries were not life-threatening. A man was later arrested nearby inside the Co-op store in Blackstock Road on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody
A man in his 30s was taken into police custody. The force is appealing for witnesses.
The police spokesman said: "There was a significant police presence in the area this evening as officers dealt with the incident and we'd like to thank residents for their patience." More on this and other local stories in South Yorkshire
