Sofa thrown at police in chase in Ingatestone

An officer who was on foot was struck by the van and sustained minor injuries in the pursuit in Ingatestone, Essex, on Thursday. Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and two others that were in the van were arrested on suspicion of assault. Officers have appealed to anyone who saw items being thrown to contact them. Essex Police were called to an incident in the Chapel Street area of Billericay at 14:40 BST to find several men attempting to make a getaway in a white builders' van with ladders on the roof. Two on run The van came to a halt in Stock Lane in Ingatestone after colliding with a police officer and a police car. Four men in the van were arrested at the scene. A 19-year old man from Basildon was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a a 20-year-old man from Sittingbourne, Kent was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, theft of a motor vehicle and assault. A 42-year-old man from Basildon was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and assault. A 26-year-old from Coulsdon, Surrey, was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and assault. They are all currently in custody. Two other men in the van ran off and have not yet been located. |
